Research and Monitoring

The core aspects of the Research and Monitoring department are:

  • Documentation and analysing the content and presentation of news, current affairs, and public information on radio, television and in the print media.
  • Monitoring the performance of the media in elections, including balance and fairness in news and current affairs, accuracy and impartially in voter education and equity in political advertising and direct access.
  • Conducting commissioned research on behalf of the public or private bodies, where this is consistent with the mission of the Trust.
  • Monitoring public information rights violations, including legislative oppression and other factors inhibiting or restricting free expression and the right to be informed.
